Two primary topics of discussion arose within MMA circles after Vitor Belfort (pictured) planted his foot in Luke Rockhold’s face his past Saturday – ironically, one of which was not the highlight reel strike itself.
The giant elephant in the Octagon was, ‘How much did testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) have to do with Belfort’s second consecutive head kick (T)KO victory?’ The second subject that emerged from this weekend was how Belfort reacted at the UFC on FX 8 post-fight press conference when MMAJunkie reporter John Morgan asked him about said elephant.
Just in case you missed Belfort’s rant, it went a little something like this, “Can somebody beat him up for me, please? Can somebody beat him up?
“You’re boring, man. You’re boring. Get out of here. I don’t want to talk to him. Talk to my hand, man.”
Clearly, there were at least a million better ways the 36-year-old could have answered the question, and Belfort took some heat for it after the presser wrapped. That must be why “The Phenom” went to Twitter Tuesday to apologize for his “immature” response.
“To all my fans and to all the reporters that was there on the after press conference I would like to ask for forgiveness the way I answer about TRT I RECOGNIZE THAT I ANWSER IN A IMMATURE WAY BUT WAS THE 10 th time that that reporter ask the same question. No excuse!! I made a WORNG call and I am here to ask for forgiveness,” Belfort wrote. “God bless all you guys love to do what I do and I am keeping moving UP SEEKING GROW AS A MEN OF GOD AND AS A FIGHTER “DONT DOUT ME I WILL PROUVE U WORNG” PEACE”
All is forgiven? Probably. All is forgotten about Belfort’s TRT usage? Not likely.
