UFC Light Heavyweight Jon Jones

For those of you hoping UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones (pictured) and reigning welterweight king Georges St-Pierre would make quick returns to the Octagon, sorry.

On this week’s edition of FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight,” reporter Ariel Helwani claimed both champions are eyeing October comebacks.

Jones is slowed by the dislocated left toe he suffered in April’s trouncing of Chael Sonnen at UFC 159, while GSP might be waiting to see what happens next month at UFC 162 between middleweight title holder Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman before determining his next move.

St-Pierre believes beyond a shadow of a doubt that Weidman will upset “The Spider” and kill all hopes of the two superfights MMA fans have been clamoring for (Silva vs. St-Pierre and Silva vs. Jones). If Silva does prevail, it’s possible St-Pierre might finally agree to a blockbuster bout with the Brazilian.

If Silva isn’t in the cards for St-Pierre, Johny Hendricks will be.

GSP was seen in March posting a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 158.

“Bones,” meanwhile, has made no bones about his desire to defend his throne against Alexander Gustafsson in his next outing. A win would make Jones the most decorated light heavyweight champion in UFC history with six consecutive defenses.
