Cung Le

EliteXC Middleweight champion Cung Le defeated MMA legend Frank Shamrock this past Saturday by TKO at the end of the 3rdRound because he broke Shamrock’s arm. As vicious as that sounds, it was one of the most beautiful displays of striking that I have seen in a long time.

Le was able to dominate 13 of the 15 minutes that he went up against Shamrock, and even when he was stunned in the final two minutes of the fight he still stood in and threw back at Shamrock.

The first 13 minutes though was a clinic of how to use your strengths to your advantage and dominate a good fighter. Maybe Shamrock was being stubborn in wanting to stand with Le, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Le basically did whatever he wanted to on Saturday night.

The San-Shou fighter was able to keep Shamrock at bay with his unorthodox kicks and accurate punches. Le was able to chip away at Shamrock’s confidence and prove that he belongs in any cage or ring with top-level fighters.

Don’t believe me? Check out the 3rdRound when Le caught Shamrock and swept his leg to send him to a seat on his ass, then you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
