UFC 85: Bedlam

The world knows Nostradamus as the man that predicted many major world events. His prophecies are undeniable and have created quite the cult following. Well 5thRounders, Ngo-stradamus will look to do the same thing, but in the context of the MMA world. Coming off a fairly successful round of predictions at UFC 84, going a 3-2 (17-3 last four UFC events), read what the all mighty Ngo-stradamus foresees taking place at UFC 85.

Fabricio Werdum (+135) vs. Brandon Vera (-165)

This will be the biggest fight of Vera’s young career. Much was made of Vera and his skills before his year long layoff over a contract extension, but he did not look impressive in his return to the Octagon his last time out, losing to Tim Sylvia. However, Vera broke the thumb in his right hand early in the 1stRound, so that may have played a big role in his performance that night.

Werdum will be entering the Octagon for the third time, splitting his last two fights. There was much hope for the former Pride star when he came to the UFC, and this match should be a good indicator to see if he can become a dominate force that the UFC desperately needs in the heavyweight division, or if he will struggle has many of his fellow Pride counterparts have in the Octagon.

Ngo-stradamus predicts:Vera via 2ndRound TKO

Thales Leites (+160) vs. Nate Marquardt (-200)

Since losing his UFC debut, Leites has since rolled off three straight victories. This will clearly be his toughest test to date, as many of Leites’ 12 wins have come in C-Level organizations.

Marquardt has won six out of his last seven bouts, with his only loss coming at the hands of UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. This may not be one of the most exciting fights of the night, but Marquardt should be able to control Leites and overwhelm him with his strength and experience.

Ngo-stradamus predicts:Marquart via Unanimous Decision

Marcus Davis (+105) vs. Mike Swick (-135)

Swick will be making his second fight at the 170lb. division, coming off of a not so impressive win in his debut over Josh Burkman. Both fighters looked unprepared and unmotivated to compete, hopefully the old aggressive Swick will be coming out this time around.

He will certainly need to push the pace against Davis, since Davis hasn’t lost in his last 11 bouts, with six of those wins coming in the UFC. Davis is one of the hottest fighters in the division, his aggression and strength has allowed him to quickly move up the welterweight rankings.

If Swick does not get on the offensive and force Davis to back peddle, then he will be in for a long night. As Davis has shown, once he is able to move forward and pursue, there is not much this opponents have been able to do to stop him. Ngo-stradamus smells an upset brewing.

Ngo-stradamus predicts: Davis via 2ndRound TKO

Jason Day (+275) vs. Michael Bisping (-350)

This is a quick turnaround for both fighters, each coming out victorious less than two months ago at UFC 83. Bisping is a key player in the UFC’s continued efforts for international expansion, so there was no way that the popular Brit could have been left off of a card to fight in front of his own people.

Day will be making his second appearance for the UFC, and the Canadian has experienced much success in the smaller organizations. He earned his way to the UFC by posting an impressive 17-5 record, with only one of his victories coming at the hands of the judges.

Both of these fighters are finishers, but Day will be in over his head as Bisping is such a big 185 pounder, as well as his experience on the Octagon’s big stage should pay major dividends.

Ngo-stradamus predicts:Bisping via 3rdRound TKO

Thiago Alves (+160) vs. Matt Hughes (-200)

Due to the circumstances surrounding the fallout of this card, Hughes took this bout on short notice, mainly as a favor to UFC President and friend Dana White. Hughes has made it clear that the real fight that he wants is against former UFC Welterweight Champion and bitter rival, Matt Serra, however Alves should be a great challange for the former champ.

This may not have been the best match up for Hughes considering Alves hasn’t lost a fight in three and a half years. The up-and-comer is hungry to prove that he deserves a title shot sooner rather than later, and what better way to prove it than with six straight victories, one against what many consider as the greatest welterweight of all time. That is the opportunity that Alves looks dead in the eyes and I look for him to take full advantage of the over the hill Hughes.

Ngo-stradamus predicts:Alves via Split Decision

And those are Ngo-stradamus’ calls for UFC 85, which is only available on Pay-Per View airing Live on Saturday, June 7th at 3PM EST. The event will be held at the the O2 Arena in London, England.
