During the ring interview after Noons’ win, Nick Diaz was allowed by EliteXC Management to enter the cage to pump up a potential rematch with Noons somewhere down the line. When asked if he would be up for a rematch, Noons allowed the audience to answer for him. A chorus of boos rained down on Diaz, which seemed to set him off.
Diaz said to Noons, “Don’t be scared, homie,” and proceeded to aggressively stick both of his middle fingers in Noons’ face, while Nick’s younger brother and UFC fighter Nate threw a water bottle in Noons’ direction.
That’s when Noons and his father lunged at Diaz and his entourage as the parties had to be separated by security. The fans continued to boo The Diaz brothers as they left the ring. Then, as Nick was about to make his final exit he turned around and started telling the fans that they too were “number one,” giving everyone in attendance the bird as well.
Noons beat Nick Diaz for the EliteXC Lightweight belt back in November. Although altercations like this is not what MMA is about, EliteXC Management may be smiling behind closed doors as they are scheduled to have their second promotion on CBS on July 26th. Often times, a title fight, plus a bitter rivalry; equals ratings success.
We will wait and see if Diaz gets his wish as an announcement by EliteXC should be coming shortly.
