UFC May Counter Affliction: Banned With Free SpikeTV Event

In a sign that shows that the UFC and Dana White are concerned with Affliction’s new MMA venture, Affliction Entertainment, Sherdog is reporting that the UFC and SpikeTV are considering their own event for July 19th. Fedor Emelianenko, the guy that Dana White has never been able to sign, is set to face-off against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia in Affliction’s main event.

The current rumored main event for a possible SpikeTV event would be a Light Heavyweight showdown between Wanderlei Silva and Brandon Vera.

It would be a quick turnaround for both fighters as Silva dismantled Keith Jardine in :36 at UFC 84 and Vera was stopped, some would say prematurely, at UFC 85 on June 7th. Both should be fine physically to take a fight on short notice, but one has to wonder about their mental capacity in a fight that could have title implications for the Light Heavyweight division.

Affliction: Banned” has finalized its card and it is loaded with former UFC fighters. The fantastic card has MMA fans excited for July 19th, but the UFC is hoping that its brand name and free event could curtail some of Affliction’s thunder.

Everything is still in the preliminary stages, but look for more information very shortly.
