The injury bug strikes UFC 142. On Friday morning, the world’s most prestigious MMA promotion announced Rob Broughton, Stanislav Nedkov and Siyar Bahadurzada have all suffered undisclosed injuries that will force them out of their respective bouts in Brazil.
Broughton was slated to battle heavyweight Ednaldo Oliveira, Nedkov was set to fight Fabio Maldonado and Bahadurzada was scheduled to meet Erick Silva in the January 14th card.
Another wounded athlete appears to be Paulo Thiago. Although the organization didn’t include the welterweight in their injury report, TATAME.com stated Thiago hurt his elbow and will withdraw from his scrap against Mike Pyle.
The UFC is currently scouring the globe to find suitable replacements.
The HSBC Arena in Rio de Jenairo hosts UFC 142. The same venue held UFC 134 this past August, which was the Octagon’s first Brazilian show in nearly 13 years.
Thankfully, the featherweight title bout between champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes is still a go to headline the show (No jinx).
