“Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” is officially jumping off inside the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. The preliminary bouts are slated to start at approximately 8PM ET/5PM PT.
The Showtime broadcast begins at 10:30PM ET/PT.

Women’s featherweight champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos defends her crown against Hiroko Yamanaka in the night’s co-featured contest, while lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez puts his belt up for grabs when he faces Jorge Masvidal in the main event.
Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will also battle Ovince St. Preux in the show.

K.J. Noons Defeated Billy Evangelista via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
1stRound: Noons gets a surprising takedown less than 30 seconds into the bout, but Evangelista gets back up with relative ease. Evangelista plants him on the mat for a brief moment. Noons connects on a knee to the body and his opponent answers with his own knee and combination to the face. Evangelista clocks him with a big left. Noons lands a right hook. Evangelista, 10-9.
2ndRound: Noons gets him with a right hook and follows up with a left. Evangelista counters with a left. Noons connects on a straight right. Evangelista nails him with a right hook to the grill. Evangelista gets a hold of a single-leg but can’t secure a takedown. Another close round to score. Noons, 10-9.
3rdRound: Evangelista scores on a one-two combination, as Noons responds with a right uppercut. Noons tags him with a right head kick. Evangelista eats another right uppercut. Evangelista gets a hold of a tight standing guillotine choke, though Noons manages to escape. Both land solid shots as the horn sounds. Noons, 10-9, and likely rallied to win 29-28.
Gegard Mousasi Defeated Ovince St. Preux via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
1stRound: Mousasi hunting him down and is chopping away with kicks. Mousasi lands a big right. St. Preux gets taken down and Mousasi laying the lumber on the canvas. The Armenian advances to side-control and continues to drop bombs. Mousasi attempts a kimura, but St. Preux escapes and is now in top position. Mousasi, 10-9.
2ndRound: St. Preux’s shot gets stuffed and Mousasi plants him on his back. Mousasi continues his methodical attack, unleashing punches and elbows. The fighters get stood back up for some reason. St. Preux gets Mousasi down during a scramble and advances to side-control. No damage done. Mousasi, 10-9.
3rdRound: Mousasi gets a body lock, but can’t land a takedown. St. Preux reverses and gets the former champion to the mat. Mousasi doing a good job of avoiding strikes and manages to take top position during a scramble. St. Preux takes back control and connects on a big right hand. St. Preux, takes the round 10-9 but loses the scrap, 29-28.
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos Defeated Hiroko Yamanaka via KO (Strikes) at :16 in the 1stRound (Cyborg retains Strikeforce women’s featherweight title)
1stRound: Cyborg drops her with a vicious right just seconds into the scrap. Yamanaka fends off a rear-naked choke and gets back to her feet, but gets floored again for her troubles. Cyborg is bringing the pain and the fight is called. Game. Set. Match, Cyborg.
Gilbert Melendez Defeated Jorge Masvidal via Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 49-46) (Melendez retains Strikeforce lightweight title)
1stRound: A lot of jousting to start the contest. Melendez scores on a one-two combination to the face. Melendez tags him with a right hand and leg kick. Masvidal acts like none of the shots hurt. Masvidal takes the champ’s legs out with a leg kick. He gets taken down and Melendez locks in a guillotine choke. Nothing comes of it. Melendez, 10-9.
2ndRound: Not much more than a sparring session in the first two minutes, with Melendez landing more shots. Nothing devastating, however. Melendez nails him twice in the face and the challenger counters with a right hand and knee to the body. Although Melendez is winning the standup battle, his face appears more battered. It wasn’t the most thrilling round, but Melendez likely took it, 10-9.
3rdRound: Masvidal stuffs a single-leg takedown attempt. Masvidal scores on a knee to the sternum and follows up with a left hand. Melendez is trying to turn up the heat, but Masvidal doing a good job of avoiding. The champion eats a vicious punch to the body. Closest stanza to score thus far, Melendez, 10-9.
4thRound: Melendez has effectively used his left jab to keep his opponent at bay all night. Not much action in the first half of the round. Melendez starting to touch Masvidal’s face more often as the clock ticks away. The champion’s right eye is starting to swell pretty badly. Masvidal scores on a knee as the horn blares. Crowd boos because of the lack of action. Melendez, 10-9.
5thRound: Masvidal needs a homerun, though isn’t coming out with a sense of urgency. He does land two knees to the midsection, but Melendez answers with a combination. Melendez nails him with a flurry to the dome. This round is very similar to the prior four. Masvidal takes him down for a brief moment and gets a hold of his back as the horn sounds. Not quite the thriller most were hoping for. Melendez sweeps the cards, 50-45.
