During Saturday night’s “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” post-fight press conference, company CEO Scott Coker (Pictured) did not reveal the show’s preliminary attendance or live gate numbers. Now we understand why.

On Tuesday, the California State Athletic Commission reported only 2,995 fans entered the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, garnering a live gate of just $154,075.

The CSAC did not confirm how many complimentary tickets were issued.

The fight card’s total disclosed payroll was reportedly $580,000. Based off our trusty calculator, Strikeforce was on the wrong end of a $425,925 margin for this event.

The total payroll for September’sStrikeforce HW GP Semifinals: Barnett vs. Kharitonov” show inside the the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati was a hefty $942,000. Although the Ohio Athletic Commission didn’t announce the event’s official attendance and gate numbers, multiple outlets suggested no more than 5,000 (a very generous estimate) fans set foot in the venue.
