Daley Repalces Swick Against Kampmann At UFC 103

With Mike Swick suffering a concussion only 2 weeks before UFC 103, it was announced that newly signed welterweight Paul “Semtex” Daley will be promoted from his un-televised bout against Brian Foster to face Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann. The Kampmann/Swick bout was scheduled to give the UFC a #1 contender to Georges St-Pierre’s title, but with Swick’s removal the UFC’s welterweight landscape has changed.

St-Pierre will reportedly be out until at least February with a groin injury that he suffered in his successful title defense against then #1 contender Thiago Alves at UFC 100.

“I want to take a run at the belt and eventually be the champion. I am just happy to fight and win and opportunities will present themselves because of that,” Daley recently said about signing with the UFC.

Daley has “retired” in the past while fighting under the EliteXC banner. His comeback saw him lose a welterweight scrap to Jake Shields via submission.

Kampmann is currently 2-0 in the welterweight division, including a recent split decision victory over former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit.

It is unclear as to what Dana White’s plans are for Kampmann if he wins. It’s possible that White may schedule him to face Swick again down the road to determine St-Pierre’s next challenger.
