“UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem” is officially underway inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The preliminary bouts aired on Facebook and Spike TV.
A blockbuster heavyweight top contender bout between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem headlines the show. The card’s co-main event showcases a grudge match with lightweights Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone.

Diego Nunes Defeated Manny Gamburyan via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
1stRound: Nunes throws several kicks to start, Gamburyan unable to take him down. Solid takedown defense from Nunes, but Manny is able to score with a double-leg. Nunes fights back up and lands a huge kick to Gamburyan’s lead leg. You can see the redness on Manny’s leg already. 10-9 Nunes.
2ndRound: Big right hook lands for Manny that shakes Nunes’ legs, but he’s unable to take full advantage as Nunes recovers after some time in the clinch. Gamburyan catches a Nunes spinning back kick and takes him down. Nunes shrugs off a judo throw attempt from Gamburyan and lands a couple of knees. 10-9 Gamburyan.
3rdRound: Nice straight right from Manny, countered by another leg kick from Nunes. Adjustment made by Nunes as he switches his stance and starts to attack with inside leg kicks. Gamburyan’s takedown attempt gets stuffed and eats a knee for his trouble. Another takedown attempt thwarted by Nunes, but a low blow gives Manny a break. Both fighters exchange punches and kicks when the action resumes. 10-9 Nunes.

Jacob Volkmann Defeated Efrain Escudero via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
1stRound: Escudero throws a kick, but Volkmann catches it and takes him down. Escudero is unable to get off his back as Volkmann controls the position. Volkmann 10-9.
2ndRound: Volkmann scores another takedown when Escudero’s guillotine attempt is unsuccessful. Fans don’t sound pleased, but Volkmann is dominating the wrestling. Volkmann takes Escudero’s back as the round comes to an end. Volkmann 10-9.
3rdRound: Another failed guillotine attempt puts Escudero on his back with Volkmann in side control. Oddly the fight gets stood up when Volkmann was moving towards taking Escudero’s back. Volkmann tries to get a takedown, but Escudero secures a north-south choke then transitions into another choke before Volkmann escapes. 10-9 Escudero.
Dong Hyun Kim Defeated Sean Pierson via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
1stRound: Kim takes the role of the early aggressor with solid leg kicks. Straight left lands for Kim to Pierson’s face and then attempts a crane kick that gets caught. Judo throw by Kim allows Pierson to take Kim’s back at the end of the round. 10-9 Kim.
2ndRound: Neither fighter is landing anything, but Kim emerges as the more aggressive fighter. Kim’s leg kicks are the story of the fight thus far. Left, right hook combo lands for Kim. Pierson moves to the clinch, but Kim throws him off. Crane kick by Kim lands on Pierson’s chin although it didn’t have nearly the same effect as Lyoto Machida’s. Another crane kick lands that rocks Pierson this time, but the bell saves him. 10-9 Kim.
3rdRound: Nice timing by Kim for a double leg takedown, Pierson fights back up before getting taken down again. Fight gets stood up after inactivity, both fighters are slowing down. 10-9 Kim.

Danny Castillo Defeated Anthony Njokuani via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
1stRound: Nice double-leg take down by Castillo, but Njokuani is able to get back up. Castillo stays active by landing knees to Njokuani’s leg before getting a full mount up against the cage. Njokuani avoids a submission and attempts a guillotine before getting picked up and slammed down. 10-9 Castillo.
2ndRound: Flying knee by Njokuani almost lands, Castillo’s takedown attempt gets stuffed. Another takedown attempt fails and Njokuani gets a thai clinch and lands several knees before letting go and landing a big elbow. Right hand drops Castillo and a knee lands for Njokuani, but Castillo is able to score a takedown and recover. 10-9 Njokuani.
3rdRound: Castillo gets a takedown early in the final round, but can’t capitalize. Njokuani gets out of control with his striking which allows Castillo to grab a hold of his back with both fighters standing up. You can see the urgency in Njokuani’s striking, but it might be too late. 10-9 Castillo.
Ross Pearson Defeated Junior Assuncao via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
1stRound: Assuncao takes Pearson down, but nothing comes of it. Pearson avoids a takedown attempt and lands a knee to Assuncao’s chest. Left, right, left combo lands for Assuncao who seems to be trying his best to look like Lyoto Machida. 10-9 Assuncao.
2ndRound: Left kick to the body followed by a straight right lands for Assuncao. Solid left hand by Assuncao rocks Pearson’s jaw. Pearson can’t seem to find his elusive opponent. Just as I write that a body punch, followed by a straight to Assuancao’s face drops him. There’s a small cut open right under Assuncao’s right eye. Pearson trips Assuncao, but gets his leg caught and ends up on his back. 10-9 Pearson.
3rdRound: Assuncao catches Pearson coming in with a stiff jab and follows it up with a takedown. Assuncao moves to Pearson’s back up against the cage. Good defense by Pearson allows him to avoid danger. Another strong jab lands for Assuncao before the fighters clinch against the cage. Assuncao is doing a good job of mixing up his punching with takedowns, but he’s clearly starting to breathe heavy as he eats a knee going in for a takedown. A headkick followed by a knee lands for Pearson as he starts to pour it on at the end. 10-9 Pearson.

Jim Hettes Defeated Nam Phan via Unanimous Decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-26)
1stRound: Hettes takes Phan down right away and went for a guillotine from the half guard. Phan survives but is getting pounded from the top. Hettes is taking it to Phan early on with some nice ground and pound. Phan gets back up and lands a looping right hand. Hettes scores another big takedown with a hip toss and moves into full mount. Hettes lands an elbow and goes for an armbar, but Phan is defending well and survives the round. 10-9 Hettes.
2ndRound: Hettes throws Phan down as the round begins and tries to secure full mount again, but Phan escapes and ends up in Hettes’ guard. Phan continues to get taken down over and over again, this time Hettes ends up in side control. 10-9 Hettes.
3rdRound: Phan started out aggressive landing a few punches but gets taken down in the process. Hettes continues to dominate the fight and secures an arm triangle, but defends it well. More ground and pound coming from Hettes with big elbows getting throw Phan’s defense. 10-9 Hettes.
Alexander Gustafsson Defeated Vladimir Matyushenko via TKO (Strikes) at 2:13 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Matyushenko throws a pair of bombs, but misses wildly. Both fighters throw at the same time, but Gustafsson’s drops Matyushenko with a jab and follows up before the referee stops it.
Johny Hendricks Defeated Jon Fitch via KO (Punch) at 0:12 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Well that was fast. A straight left by Hendricks flattens Fitch as the referee jumps in.
Nate Diaz Defeated Donald Cerrone via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
1stRound: Both fighters come out swinging. Diaz clinches up and pushes Cerrone against the cage, but Cerrone lands a straight right. Diaz lands a four punch combination as Cerrone looks like he’s falling right into Diaz’s gameplan. Cerrone lands a leg kick, but Diaz continues to pepper Cerrone who ooks like he’s slowing down. Head kick for Cerrone lands, but Diaz keeps pushing forward. Cerrone is breathing hard and has a bloody mouth while Diaz keeps pushing forward. 10-9 Diaz.
2ndRound: A pair of big Cerrone leg kicks puts Diaz on his back. Diaz tries to take Cerrone’s back and gets thrown off. Cerrone looks much more active in the 2ndRound as he continues to eat punches. Diaz’s punches are starting to look labored now as the war continues. 10-9 Diaz.
3rdRound: Diaz flips Cerrone off as the final round begins. Diaz starts to unleash on Cerrone while he’s mocking the former WEC fighter. Cerrone lands a knee to Diaz’s body and throws a pair of leg kicks. Another knee lands to Diaz’s midsection, then his face. Cerrone sweeps Diaz’s leg again and lets him get back up. Both fighters leave it all in the cage as the horn sounds. 10-9 Diaz.
Alistair Overeem Defeated Brock Lesnar via TKO (Strikes) at 2:26 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Lesnar throws a leg kick to start, Overeem misses high with an overhand right. Lesnar grabbed a single leg, Overeem is able to shake his left free. Lesnar eats a pair of knees to his midsection. Overeem lands a left kick to Lesnar’s body that forces the former champion to fold over. Overeem follows up and the referee stops the fight.
