Multiple reports are indicating that fast-rising superstar Jon Jones will be taking on Matt Hamill at “The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale,” which is expected to take place on December 5th at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
MMAMadness.com first broke the news and word is that both sides have agreed to the scrap and bout contracts should be signed and submitted shortly.
Jones owns a perfect 9-0 professional record, and has run roughshod through the UFC’s light heavyweight division since entering it three fights ago. The youngster has defeated Andre Gusmao, Stephan Bonnar, and most recently, Jake O’Brien at UFC 100.
Hamill will be his toughest challenge to date, however that has also been said about his previous Octagon opponents.
Hamill showed off a much-improved stand up game against Mark Munoz at UFC 96. The wrestler landed a vicious headkick that knocked the Filipino on Queer Street in the 1stRound of their tango. He was initially slated to stand opposite Brandon Vera at UFC 102, but a knee injury forced him out of that proposed bout.
With the knee good-to-go now, Hamill will see if he can establish himself as a legit contender in the UFC’s most glamorous division, while handing Jones his first blemish in the process.
There has been no official word from the UFC regarding the fight, or the event’s show date and location for that matter. It’s still months out, so a lot can change, but a big fight for Jones nonetheless.
