According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, 13,793 fans packed the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 30th to witness “UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem.”
The New Year’s weekend event garnered a live gate of $3,101,000.
Considering the show took place on a Friday instead of the UFC’s customary Saturday home for pay-per-view broadcasts, the numbers are rather impressive. However, the show was not sold out.
Of the 13,793 folks in attendance, the NSAC reports 10,091 fans paid to enter the arena, while 3,702 people received complimentary tickets.
There were 137 unsold seats.
The official numbers don’t deviate too far from what UFC president Dana White reported during the UFC 141 post-fight press conference. White said 12,158 fans had packed the venue, generating $3.1 million at the door.
Alistair Overeem made his highly-anticipated big league debut in spectacular fashion by quickly putting Brock Lesnar down in the night’s featured contest. Lesnar announced his retirement from mixed martial arts following his second straight loss.
