ShoXC Elite Challenger Series Results for October 26th

Last night on Showtime MMA fans got to watch a solid fight card with a lot of unknown fighters to the casual fan. If you haven’t watched ShoXC it, it’s a event that Elite XC puts on that allows up and coming MMA fighters to show their stuff in hopes of making it to the big stage. Well Javier Vazquez (12-2-0) and Aaron Rosa (9-1-0) were two of those fighters who were pretty much on the cusp of become fighters who had a chance to make it big. One lived up to the hype, and the other come up a little short. There was also a big surprise from one of the fighters as well.
Undercard:
Chris Cariaso (6-0-0) def. Richard McCorkel (1-0-0) by Unanimous Decision
Givanildo Santana (5-0-0) def. Jaime Fletcher (5-3-0) by Armbar Submission in the First Round
Shane DelRosario (3-0-0) def. Amedeo Viola (0-1-0) by Armbar Submission in the First Round
Televised Fights:
Muhsin Corbbrey (6-2-0) def. Bobby McMasters (7-1-0) by Guillotine Choke in the First Round
This was a very entertaining fight as McMasters actually looked in control after he took Corbbrey down. Corbbrey had the advantage in the stand-up with some nice striking, but looked unable to do anything from his back. Then with one second left in the first round, Corbbrey locked in Guillotine that forced McMasters to tap.
Shayna Baszler (8-4-0) def. Jennifer Tate (3-1-0) by Armbar Submission in the First Round
Talk about a quick fight. Baszler, who trains with Josh Barnett, made it happen with a very quick armbar. Not much else to say.
Malaipet MTA (2-1-0) def. Kaleo Kwan (5-7-0) by Unanimous Decision
The muay-thai fighter Malaipet was able to leg kick his way to a unanimous decision as Kwan had no defense. Although Kwan did land a few punches, it wasn’t enough as Malaipet just picked Kwan apart from the outside to win an easy unanimous decision.
Javier “Showtime” Vazquez (12-2-0) def. JC Pennington (12-4-1) by Rear Naked Choke in the First Round
Pennington had won nine of his fights by submission, so you’d figure that he would be able to handle himself on the ground, but Vazquez was clearly in a class above him as he quickly took Pennington’s back and sunk in a rear naked choke that forced Pennington to tap. The surprise of the night was that Vazquez announced that he was going to be retiring from the sport of MMA to open his own gym.
Jared Hamman (9-0-0) def. Aaron Rosa (9-1-0) by Rear Naked Choke in the Second Round
Aaron Rosa was the guy that ShoXC was building up as possibly the next big Light Heavyweight because he trains with Tito Ortiz at the Team Punishment camp, but it was Hamman who looked like the better fighter. Hamman was able to land massive blows from the full guard position, and passed Rosa’s guard whenever he felt like it. Rosa was mounted multiple times until Hamman got a rear naked choke in the second round.
All in all it was a good free TV bout (if you pay for Showtime that is) for MMA fans, and hopefully we can see more fighters move up through the ranks to allow more people to know who they are.
