According to Lyoto Machida, Bradon Vera has declined to fight him on the UFC’s July 19th card that’ll go up against Affliction’s Pay-Per-View. Machida told Brazilian magazine Tatame, “it is true. The [UFC] offer me, but Brandon Vera didn’t want this fight.” It would’ve been a fairly quick turnaround for Vera as he just suffered his second straight loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 85.
If true, it is certainly a strange turn of events as Vera had also accused Werdum of ducking him for a re-match. It is also important to note that Vera currently fights in the Heavyweight division and a possible weight-cut to Light Heavyweight in such a short time frame could’ve been the deciding factor.
The UFC has admitted that they have had a tough go of finding an opponent for Machida.
For now the only fight that has been announced for July 19th is the main event, which features the current UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva stepping up into the Light Heavyweight division to fight James Irvin.
