According to a recent Twitter post, UFC lightweight Kenny Florian is confirmed for a UFC 107 scrap against Clay Guida in Memphis, Tennessee in December.
MMALive, an employer of Florian’s, Tweeted the following just around noon today:
“Breaking News: MMA Live has learned Kenny Florian will face Clay Guida at UFC 107 in December. The Live hits Memphis!”
I wonder who gave them such great inside information?
Speaking of suspects, Florian recently told MMA FanHouse that he was “optimistic” the fight would be signed as he is anxious to get back into the Octagon following his submission loss to lightweight champion BJ Penn at UFC 101.
It was initially thought that the two would tango at UFC 106 in Las Vegas, Nevada, however it looks like the organization opted to bolster UFC 107’s fight card after it was reported that the light heavyweight main event between Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is now off.
Guida is also coming off a loss, as he came up short against Diego Sanchez, who has now become the #1 contender and likely will face Penn at UFC 105 in England.
Florian had nothing but good things to say about his potential opponent, specifically the heart that the wild-haired Guida showed against Sanchez when it was clear he was in trouble at several points during their June bout.
“Clay’s a tough guy,” Florian explained. “He never quits.”
After another failed attempt at securing the UFC’s lightweight title, Florian appears ready to make a third run at a title shot. He’ll have to get past a very willing and capable Guida to start his climb back up the division.
