Win, lose or draw, Friday night’s fight with Eric Schafer was going to mark Jorge Rivera’s (Pictured) final mixed martial arts fight. With Father Time knocking on his door, the 39-year-old decided to put a pounding on Schafer.
After getting outwrestled in the opening five minutes, Rivera rallied in the 2ndRound after Schafer was careless on a single-leg takedown attempt. “El Conquistador” started laying the lumber and it was a wrap shortly after that.
“I told myself coming in tonight to just relax, let it all hang out and hopefully walk away with a win,” Rivera expressed. “I’ve had a wonderful career, and I’m very grateful to the UFC, but I don’t want to do this anymore.
“This job isn’t easy. I’m ready to put my time in being a husband and father.”
The former “The Ultimate Fighter 4” contestant retires with a respectable 20-9 professional record. Besides his skills inside of the cage, Rivera is also one of the most respected and liked athletes outside of it.
