MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Dan Henderson will be taking on Rousimar Palhares at UFC 88. The website has confirmed with sources close to Palhares’ camp that the fight is as close to a done deal as you can get. The bout is scheduled to take place on September 6th at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, and will mark the UFC’s first promotion in the state. This will be Henderson’s first fight in seven months.
It will also be Henderson’s third fight for the UFC, his previous two were both title bouts which unified the 205 and 185-pound title. Henderson was the reigning Pride Champion in both weights prior to the UFC’s purchase of the company just over a year ago.
In his first bout, he lost to current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson via Unanimous Decision at UFC 75. He followed that up with a decisive loss to current UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 82.
Before his entrance into the UFC, Henderson was dead set on staying at the 205-pound division, however this bout against the up and coming Brazilian Top Team member will be at 185.
Palhares will be making his second outing for the UFC. He was rather impressive in his debut when he submitted UFC veteran Ivan Sallavarry in the 1stRound at UFC 84. On Monday, Sallavarry officially announced his retirement from competitive fighting.
The main event of the night will feature Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell taking on Rashad Evans.
