Just days after announcing Brandon Vera (Pictured) would have the opportunity to rematch Thiago Silva, an undisguised injury has forced the light heavyweight out of “UFC on FX 3.”
No word if the organization is planning to keep Silva in the May 15th event or have him shelved until Vera is able to return.
Silva initially posted a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Vera at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day in 2011. However, the Brazilian subsequently flunked his drug test and had his win overturned to a no contest.
He was also issued a year-long suspension and fined $2,500 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Vera was originally released from the UFC following the defeat, but was given a new lease on life after Silva’s cheating ways came to light. “The Truth” bounced back at UFC 137 by hanging a unanimous decision over Eliot Marshall.
The middleweight bout between Tom Lawlor and Jason MacDonald is the only scrap confirmed for the show thus far. Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia hosts the festivities.
