Thiago Silva’s (Pictured) rematch with Brandon Vera is officially on the back burner. On Wednesday afternoon, it was announced the light heavyweight will battle Igor Pokrajac at “UFC on FUEL TV 3.”
Exactly one week ago, it had been reported Silva and Vera would get their do over in the May 15th event. Three days later, Vera was forced to pull out because his doctor wouldn’t grant him clearance for what’s to believed to be the left elbow injury he suffered at UFC 137.
At the time, it was unknown whether the organization would keep Silva in the show or shelf him until Vera returned.
Silva initially posted a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Vera at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day in 2011. However, the Brazilian subsequently flunked his drug test and had his win overturned to a no contest.
He was also issued a year-long suspension and fined $2,500 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Pokrajac and his two-fight winning streak will welcome Silva back to the Octagon. “The Duke” was last seen putting Krzysztof Soszynski to sleep at UFC 140.
Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia hosts the festivities.
Here is the card’s current roster:
Igor Pokrajac vs. Thiago Silva
Tom Lawlor vs. Jason MacDonald
Donald Cerrone vs. Yves Edwards
