If you are a first generation Asian-American like I am, chances are that Bruce Lee served as much of your childhood entertainment. “Enter the Dragon,” “Game of Death,” “Fist of Fury,” you name it, I saw it – an infinite amount of times.
Although the legendary martial artist died nearly 40 years ago at the tender age of 32, his philosophies are as prominent today as they have ever been. In fact, many consider Lee as the Godfather of mixed martial arts because he was the first to preach the necessity of having to study as many different disciplines as possible.
Being constrained in the fixed positions of one technique was far too predictable.
“Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water,” Lee famously stated. “If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
“I Am Bruce Lee” premieres in select theaters tonight. The biopic movie will only be available on the silver screen today and February 15th.
UFC president Dana White and reigning light heavyweight king Jon Jones are among several stars that make cameos in the film.
