Shortly after the Nevada State Athletic Commission reported Nick Diaz had failed his UFC 143 drug test when marijuana was found in his system, UFC president Dana White (Pictured) released a statement regarding his troubled welterweight.
White’s comments were brief, if not generic, but it appears he’s will quietly stand the sidelines while the powers that be handle the unfortunate situation.
“I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana,” said White. “It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.”
Today’s flunked drug exam marks the second time Diaz has registered a positive read for weed in the state of Nevada. Following his upset victory over Takanori Gomi at Pride 33, the NSAC overturned his win to a no contest after traces of THC were found in his system.
The 28-year-old also pulled a no-show for a mandatory pre-fight screening when he was set to face Jay Hieron for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title in August 2009. Manager Cesar Gracie stated Diaz didn’t provide a urinalysis because he “would have tested positive for cannabis.”
Diaz now faces up to a year-long suspension.
The question is, will White allow Diaz back inside of his Octagon once the NSAC’s ban is lifted?
