For those of you hoping Gina Carano (Pictured) would resume her mixed martial arts career now that her big screen debut, “Heywire,” bombed at the box office – this according to the film’s director, Steven Soderbergh – don’t hold your breath.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Conviction” will seek redemption by starring in the action-thriller “In the Blood.”
The movie is set in motion when a husband vanishes while vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, which will be played by Carano. The grieving wife pursues the men whom she believes kidnapped and killed her hubby.
“This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past,” said James Robert Stockwell, the film’s writer.
Carano hasn’t been seen in a mixed martial arts fight since getting steamrolled by Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in the most anticipated female scrap in history on August 15, 2009. The 29-year-old owns a 7-1 professional MMA record.
Despite her prolonged hiatus, there has still been no official word from Carano’s camp that her fighting days are over.
