Strikeforce Middleweight Ronaldo Jacare Souza

To kick off Tuesday morning’s conference call, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced Derek Brunson has been pulled from his middleweight fight against Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (Pictured) because he wasn’t able to obtain medical clearance for the March 3rd shootout.

Coker would not go into specifics regarding Brunson’s unfortunate situation, but he did state the organization is currently scouring the globe for a last-minute replacement to meet Jacare. Whoever Strikeforce is able to sign, Coker anticipates the scrap would remain as one of the five featured bouts in the show’s main card.

Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio hosts the event. A bantamweight title bout between champion Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey headlines the festivities.

Showtime will broadcast the main card at 10PM ET/PT.

(UPDATED: 2/21/2012 at 10:45AM PT):

Brunson just tweeted that a failed eye exam is the reason he was forced to pull out:

“Ok here’s the deal … I’ve been fighting with contacts for 11 fights (9pro,2ams) never was an issue. Ohio won’t pass my eye exam. Stevie Wonder can play a piano blind & blind people can drive cars , but i can’t fight with contacts #doesntmakesense”

Here is the card’s revised roster:

Preliminary Card:

(Showtime Extreme 8PM ET/PT)

Ryan Couture vs. Conor Heun

Caros Fodor vs. Pat Healy

Sarah Kaufman vs. Alexis Davis
