Benson Henderson may have been awarded a convincing unanimous decision victory at UFC 144, but Frankie Edgar (Pictured) believed he had done enough to retain his lightweight title on Sunday. If you were to peruse the stat sheet, the judges’ verdict may have been the correct one.
According to the UFC’s official number crunchers, Henderson (87) landed more significant strikes than Edgar (68). Furthermore, the former WEC champion connected on 100 total strikes in comparison to Edgar’s 81.
In the takedown department, Henderson was successful on his only try. Edgar, on the other hand, secured five of his 12 attempts.
At the end of the day, FightMetric had Henderson winning the 25 minute affair with a 49-46 score.
That tally is similar to what the three judges sitting just inches from the live action witnessed. Their report cards read 49-46, 48-47 and 49-46, respectively.
