Nine “UFC 144: Edgar vs. Henderson” contestants have been issued medical suspensions for various injuries sustained in their respective scraps, including featured fighters Benson Henderson (Pictured) and Frankie Edgar.
Although Edgar left Saitama Super Arena with a severely swollen left eye, he will only have to ride the pine for 45 days. Henderson, who appeared no worse for wear following their 25-minute affair, could be banned up to six months unless he can produce negative X-rays on both of his hands and left foot.
This shouldn’t be a problem for Bendo, as the freshly-minted lightweight champion was touring South Korea and performing in exhibitions on Tuesday.
UFC 144 took place this past Sunday in Saitama, Japan. Because there is no governing body for mixed martial arts in The Land of the Rising Sun, the suspensions were levied by Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
