MMAWeekly is reporting that Antonio Silva and Justin Eilers have verbally agreed to face each other on EliteXC’s upcoming July 26th card on CBS. It is not certain whether or not the two will battle to walk away as the first ever EliteXC Heavyweight Champion or not. In addition to Silva, several of his fellow Brazilian Top Team fighters may be added to the second CBS card as well.
EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw told MMAWeekly.com on Monday that they are simply awaiting the signed contracts from both fighters.
“It’s still in discussion with EliteXC officials if we’re going to make it a title fight or not,” Shaw stated. “But we feel if we did, Justin is a credible and worthy opponent, and rival challenge for Junior Silva.”
Silva and Eilers will be competing on the Showtime broadcast which is slated to air from 8-9PM EST. That will lead directly into the CBS broadcast which starts at 9PM EST.
Elite is planning to stage a “night of the Brazilians” event, and they are hoping to have a top Brazilian light heavyweight and featherweight bout on the card. No fighters have been mentioned specifically, however EliteXC will be set to release more bouts within the coming weeks.
EliteXC’s second CBS promotion will be held at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, California. The event will feature at least two title bouts, as Jake Shields will be taking on Nick Thompson for the Open EliteXC Welterweight belt, as well as the rematch between Scott Smith and Robbie Lawler for the Middleweight title. In addition to that, Stockton’s own Nick Diaz will be taking on Thomas Denny.
