On the heels of his upset special over Eddie Alvarez, current Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler (Pictured) returns to face veteran Akihiro Gono in a non-title affair at “Bellator 67.” The May 4th event takes place inside Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.
“I’m just excited to get back into the cage,” Chandler said. “I fought four times in 2011 and I’m ready to get back to work. Gono has beaten some of the best fighters in the sport and this should be a good test for me.”
Chandler is perfect through his first nine professional fights, with his 4thRound submission victory over Alvarez to capture the crown marking the biggest of his young career.
Gono has previously posted wins over reigning Bellator middleweight king Hector Lombard and former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi. The veteran is notorious for never turning down a scrap and hopping weight classes to wreak havoc.
A welterweight bout between Ryan Ford and Luis Santos was also announced for the show.
MTV2 will broadcast the main card at 8PM ET/PT.
