Ultimate Fight Night 19

The UFC ended their 15-year hiatus in Oklahoma and drew an announced crowd of 7,500 spectators inside the Cox Convention Center for a reported $650,000 live gate. The Spike TV broadcast of “UFC Fight Night 19” was headlined by Nate Diaz’ nasty guillotine choke of Melvin Guillard in the 2ndRound of their bout.

Although the number of fans are down from the record 10,267 fans that attended UFC Fight Night 18 in April, the live gate from Wednesday night’s show was nearly a $24,000 increase from the previous show that was held in Tennessee.

Last night’s show marked the organization’s first promotion in Oklahoma since UFC 4 back in December of 1994.

Regardless of what the official numbers will be, the UFC is probably more concerned with TV ratings for the fights, as well as the highly anticipated season debut of the tenth season of their reality show, “The Ultimate Fighter.”

This season features street fighting sensation Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and his presence will revitalize the struggling show. UFC FN 19 served as a great lead-in to help bolster a carry-over audience.
