Although Thiago Silva (Pictured) was the one who took a banned substance prior to posting a victory over Brandon Vera, which subsequently got Vera temporarily fired from the UFC, Silva is the one that appears to still be holding a grudge against “The Truth.”
Of course, Vera constantly calling Silva a “Juice Monkey” hasn’t helped squash their beef, either.
The bitter rivals were slated to rematch at “UFC on FUEL TV: Korean Zombie vs. Poirier,” but Vera was forced to withdraw after failing to receive medical clearance from his doctor. According to Silva, those broken nails sure can be troublesome.
“For me there is not much to change, but I actually wanted to get Brandon Vera because he talked a lot of nonsense,” Silva told Sherdog. “He took a beating like a little girl and was crying afterwards. I think [this time] he broke a nail, so he couldn’t fight.”
Silva initially posted a lopsided unanimous decision win over Vera at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day in 2011. However, the Brazilian subsequently flunked his drug test and had his win overturned to a no contest.
He was also issued a year-long suspension and fined $2,500 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Silva was reassigned to face Igor Pokrajac in the same May 15th card after Vera’s exit, but received a promotion after a last-minute injury sidelined Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. He now headlines “UFC on FUEL TV 2” opposite Alexander Gustafsson.
“They offered the Croation [Prokrajac], then Nogueira was hurt. I don’t choose my opponents, so I accepted [the fight with Gustafsson],” Silva added. “I’m happy to be in the main fight of the night and I will show why I should be there.”
