MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Top UFC Welterweight contenders Thiago Silva and Diego Sanchez will be facing each other at UFC 89. It was confirmed to the website by a source close to the situation that both fighters have already verbally agreed to the match up, which will be help on October 18th in Birmingham, England. Contracts should be signed within the coming week.

Alves is coming off of his most dominating performance to date at UFC 85, when he dominated future UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes in two rounds. Alves had been hoping to face the winner of next month’s title bout between Jon Fitch and 170-pound Champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 87.

Sanchez is coming off a victorious bout against Luigi Fioravanti at The Ultimate Fighter Finale, just last week. After losing two fights in a row, he has now rolled off two consecutive wins and feels that his career is back on track.

These are two of the more exciting fighters that the UFC has to offer, so this fight is sure to be action packed, especially what is at stake.  There is little reason to doubt that the winner of this bout will certainly be deemed the top contender in the Welterweight division, so these two will be watching UFC 87 very closely.

The two welterweights will duke it out as the co-main event, which will be headlined by Chris Leban taking on England’s own Michael Bisping.
