Chael Sonnen (Pictured) has never been shy about expressing his feelings. However, some were surprised the chatty middleweight decided to chime in on Alistair Overeem’s flunked drug test considering Sonnen had failed a screening of his own not too many moons ago.
Many, including Jason “Mayhem” Miller, believed it was the pot calling the kettle black. The 185-pounders haven’t had much of a history with each other in the verbal sparring department, but that didn’t stop them from igniting a spat on Twitter.
Here’s how their conversation went down:
“I’m shocked. Has the body fat of a tooth brush, looks like the guy on STREET FIGHTER. My mind is blown, just blown,” Sonnen tweeted hours after Overeem’s positive test came to light.
“Chael berating someone on their test level is like me making fun of someone’s bad haircut,” Miller commented.
“MayHem: Due to time constraints I am currently confining my Twitter wars to active, relevant, fighters ONLY. Buy a T-shirt on your way out,” Sonnen countered.
“@sonnench don’t worry-you’re a beatdown away from obscurity. I’ll be happy to beat your head in-that’s if it’s not still on a pike in Rio,” Miller responded.
Although Sonnen subsequently revealed Testosterone Replacement Therapy was the reason he failed his UFC 117 drug exam, he still registered a Testosterone/Epitestosterone ratio of 16.9:1. Overeem checked in at 14:1.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission only permits their athletes to have a T/E ratio of 6:1.
In the meantime, Sonnen has bigger fish to fry. He challenges middleweight king Anderson Silva for his crown at UFC 147. Miller will be fighting for his big league life against C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146.
