Second Time’s a Charm for Vitor Belfort

The name Vitor Belfort seems like it’s been around MMA since the dawn of time, however it’s shocking to know the Brazilian is only 32-years-old. Although he once held the UFC’s highly coveted light heavyweight title, he’s back for middleweight gold this time and he promises that his second soiree will be much more explosive than the first.

“The Bible said that the glory of the second house is bigger than the first,” Belfort said of his return to the UFC. “I’m ready to get there. Nobody is going to take that from me. God’s giving it to me, and I’m going to receive it.”

Belfort is heavily rumored to be next in line for a shot at Anderson Silva’s strap at UFC 108 on January 2nd, however there has been no official word from the organization.

However, Dana White all-but assured that Belfort’s next scrap will be a 5Round affair after he slapped the senses out of Rich Franklin at UFC 102 a couple weeks back. It took him all of 3:02 to knock out the former 185-pound champ in the 1stRound, prompting White to immediately promote Belfort to top contender status.

“I think Vitor is ready to fight Anderson Silva [now],” White stated at the UFC 102 post-fight presser.

With the opportunity to capture a UFC title and end Silva’s 11-fight winning streak on his doorstep, Belfort has been working hard at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nevada to add more wrinkles to his expanding MMA game.

“My new weapon that I’m adding to my game is karate,” Belfort said. “It’s just something that I want to use right now. As soon as I see something, I make sure I have the zip code, the address and the social security number. I don’t like to throw things away.

“Sometimes I take my time; sometimes I’m aggressive. But as soon as I start, I make sure I fight. That’s what people want to see.”

Sounds a lot like something UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida would say. MMA’s Karate Kid has implemented that exact same style for years and has enjoyed a perfect 15-0 record because of it.

UFC 108 is rumored to be taking place inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
