One day after losing middleweight champion Hector Lombard to the glitz and glamor of the UFC, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney has taken definitive steps towards crowning a new 185-pound king.
On Wednesday, Rebney announced the winner of the organization’s Season 6 Middleweight Tournament final between Maiquel Falcao (Pictured) and Andreas Spang will battle Season 5 tourney victor Alexander Shlemenko for the now-vacant title.
“Winner of Falcao v. Spang will face Alexander Shlemenko for the world title this fall,” Rebney tweeted.
Spang solidified his spot in the finals by putting Brian Rogers to sleep this past Saturday. Falcao cruised to a unanimous decision win over Vyacheslav Vasilevsky in the same card.
Falcao and Spang will rekindle their rivalry in a few weeks. The middleweights had a brush-up in the cage shortly after their respective wins and had to be separated.
Shlemenko is currently recovering from a broken collarbone and dislocated thumb he suffered in an auto accident a couple of weeks ago.
