There will apparently be some Brazilian-on-Brazilian crime going down in Canada. On Sunday afternoon, UFC president Dana White announced Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (Pictured) will return to action against Thiago Silva.
White didn’t confirm when the light heavyweight shootout would take place, but MMAJunkie reports UFC 149 inside Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary could host the scrap.
Shogun has alternated between wins and losses over his past six bouts. He was last seen dropping a controversial decision defeat to Dan Henderson at UFC 139 in November.
The former light heavyweight champion hasn’t collected consecutive victories since April 2009.
Silva ended his year-long drug suspension earlier this month by losing a unanimous decision to Alexander Gustafsson. Prior to that, he posted a lopsided decision victory over Vera at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day in 2011. However, Silva subsequently flunked his drug test and had his win overturned to a no contest.
The 29-year-old hasn’t won a fight since August of 2009.
Here are the athletes rumored for the show:
Mitch Clarke vs. Anton Kuivanen
George Roop vs. Antonio Carvalho
Bryan Caraway vs. Mitch Gagnon
Court McGee vs. Nick Ring
Jon Fitch vs. Aaron Simpson
Thiago Alves vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cheick Kongo
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Thiago Silva
Erik Koch vs. Jose Aldo (UFC Featherweight Champion)
