The UFC’s Brazilian Twitter feed was the place to be Tuesday afternoon. Moments after announcing Yoshihiro Akiyama was forced out of his UFC 149 tango against Thiago Alves, the page tweeted Rick Story (Pictured) now has a new opponent for “UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida.”
Welterweight Rich Attonito has withdrawn from the June 22nd event with an undisclosed injury, and believe it or not, Papy Abedi has been granted another shot in the big leagues.
“Makambo” entered the Octagon with high expectations having won all eight of his professional contests. Fast forward two very disappointing losses and the 33-year-old Abedi is now scrapping for his UFC life.
Speaking of two-fight skids, after Story started off his 2011 campaign with an impressive win over the aforementioned Alves, “Horror” had a nightmarish close to the year by dropping his next pair of bouts via unanimous decision.
Although both 170-pounders desperately need to right the ship, Story is only 27 years of age and is more likely to get another opportunity with the UFC if he runs the reverse trifecta.
