Chad Mendes (Pictured) has exactly 29 days to perfect his guillotine submission escapes. On Friday afternoon, it was announced the former featherweight top contender will meet Cody McKenzie at UFC 148.
McKenzie owns a 13-2 professional record, with 11 of his victories coming by way of guillotine choke. The former “The Ultimate Fighter 12” contestant was seen just three days ago snapping his two-fight losing streak by tapping Marcus LeVesseur via, you guessed it, guillotine.
Mendes was perfect through his first 11 pro scraps before attempting to block Jose Aldo’s knee with his face at UFC 142. “Money” looks to shoot back up the 145-pound totem pole following January’s devastating knockout loss.
MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the July 7th festivities. A middleweight rematch between champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen headlines the pay-per-view broadcast.
