After two-and-a-half years of suffering through injury and illness, welterweight Mike Swick (Pictured) will finally resume his mixed martial arts career when he meets DaMarques Johnson at “UFC on FOX: Stann vs. Lombard.”
Swick was last seen posting his second consecutive loss in February of 2010. The former “The Ultimate Fighter 1” contestant was subsequently misdiagnosed with a stomach ailment and has been riding the pine ever since.
The 32-year-old was planning to return at “UFC Fight for the Troops 2” in January 2011, but opponent David Mitchell had to withdraw due to an injury. Swick then tore his knee and had to pull out of his UFC 134 bout against Erick Silva.*
Johnson, meanwhile, has alternated between wins and losses over his past six scraps. The prior “The Ultimate Fighter 9” participant was seen last month getting submitted by John Maguire.
The UFC is still looking to secure a venue to host the August 4th shindig, but the show is expected to take place in Los Angeles, California.
FOX will broadcast the main card live at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
Here is the card’s updated lineup:
Oli Thompson vs. Phil De Fries
Mike Swick vs. DaMarques Johnson
Matt Mitrione vs. Rob Broughton
Joe Lauzon vs. Terry Etim
Phil Davis vs. Chad Griggs
Travis Browne vs. Ben Rothwell
Lyoto Machida vs. Ryan Bader
Brian Stann vs. Hector Lombard
* – Ngo’s Notes: You couldn’t meet a nicer guy than Mike Swick. I’m glad to see he’s finally healthy enough to give it another go.
