Heavyweight Roy Nelson (Pictured) gave Dave Herman one of the biggest compliments imaginable during Wednesday’s UFC 146 media workouts. Unfortunately for Jon Jones, “Big Country” had to take a dig at the light heavyweight champ’s current predicament in the process.
“[Herman’s] a realistic threat,” Nelson stated of his impending opponent. “He’s the white version of Jon Jones – tall, lanky, unorthodox, you don’t know what you’re going to expect.
“At one time, he liked to party. So, you know, just like Jon Jones.”
Jones was arrested early Saturday morning for DUI after ramming his $190,000 Bentley into a pole in New York. Nelson was clearly referencing “Bones'” blunder.
Jones released a statement on Facebook, which he subsequently deleted, discussing how keyboard warriors were trying to kick him while he was down. I would imagine the 24-year-old wasn’t expecting for one of his co-workers to be doing the same.
Herman couldn’t hold back his laughter after hearing Nelson’s analysis. The slugger was flattered to have his skills compared to Jones’, but understands he’s got a long way to go before he’ll be wrapping a UFC title around his waist.
UFC 146 takes place Saturday inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
