Just in case fans didn’t take UFC president Dana White for his word when he announced Vitor Belfort would have to withdraw from UFC 147 with a broken left hand, Belfort took the initiative to post a picture of his surgically-repaired haymaker as proof.
“Cannot sleep thinking about what happened. I am very sad very sad but I know I will come back strong,” Belfort tweeted accompanied with the above pic. “Still cannot believe what happened, more so in life is to overcome our obstacles we count on you guys.”
White reported Saturday night that Belfort had gone under the knife earlier in the day. However, based off how the stitches have healed in the picture, it appears the procedure may have been done a little while ago.
In any event, “The Phenom” is a no-go for his June 23rd shootout against Wanderlei Silva. The middleweights are current serving as opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.”
No word on how long Belfort will be forced to ride the pine.
White is currently scouring his roster to find a suitable substitute to stand opposite Silva.
UFC 147 takes place inside Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais in Brazil.
