After suffering back-to-back knee injuries to his leg following a devastating loss to current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin, “Shogun” is poised to return to the Octagon. Rua told Brazilian magazine Tatame, “my knee is very good. I expect to return in December.” He has a knee exam scheduled for this week and if all goes well, he’ll be back in training shortly.
Although Rua would love a rematch with Griffin in his first fight back, he won’t get his hopes up saying, “I had a defeat on my debut [against Forrest Griffin] and I can’t choose my opponents.”
If things go as Shogun plans, he could be fighting on the same card as his former Chute Boxe teammate, Wanderlei Silva. Both Silva and Rua are now slated for December returns.
