Aaron Simpson (Pictured) has been issued a new assignment. On this week’s edition of “UFC Tonight,” it was announced Simpson will now make his welterweight debut against Kenny Robertson at “UFC on FUEL TV: Munoz vs. Weidman.”
Simpson was slated to face Jon Fitch in the July 11th event, but the former top contender was forced to withdraw after partially tearing the ACL in his knee over the weekend.
Simpson has spent the majority of his professional time fighting at middleweight. Although he owns a respectable 11-3 record, the 37-year-old decided it was time for a change of scenery following a close split decision defeat to Ronny Markes in February.
This marks Robertson’s second stint in the big leagues. The 28-year-old was released after dropping his Octagon debut to Mike Pierce at UFC 126. The TKO loss is the only blemish on his 13-fight résumé.
FUEL TV will broadcast the featured bouts live beginning at 8PM ET/5PM PT. Simpson and Robertson are expected to make it on the main card.
HP Pavilion in San Jose, California hosts the bash.
