UFC Dominick Cruz Knee

The good news for reigning UFC bantamweight king Dominick Cruz, he underwent successful surgery to repair the torn ACL in his left knee. The bad news for “The Dominator,” Wednesday’s operation could have him sidelined for as long as 6-to-9 months.

Cruz hasn’t defended his throne since posting a unanimous decision win over Demetrious Johnson in October 2011. The 26-year-old had surgery on his broken left index finger in January and then went straight into his coaching duties on “The Ultimate Fighter: Live.”

He was slated to complete his trilogy with Urijah Faber at UFC 148 prior to blowing out his knee. Faber, who was coaching opposite Cruz in the reality show, will now battle Brazilian Renan Barao for the interim 135-pound crown on July 7th.

The victor is then expected to unify the title against Cruz, but may have to take another fight in the meantime if the champion experiences complications with his rehab. However, Cruz anticipates his Octagon return coming sooner rather than later.

“They’re saying it’s going to be a while for me to recover, but I’m saying it’s not going to take as long,” Cruz confidently stated over the weekend.
