After Drug Overdose, Ian McCall Finds Calling in MMA

Most believe Ian McCall (Pictured) cost himself a win over Demetrious Johnson when he stopped his assault in the 3rdRound to unleash a couple of showboating screams to the crowd. The flyweight will get the opportunity to avenge March’s controversial draw tonight at ‘UFC on FX 3.’

However, Friday isn’t the first time McCall has been granted another chance after blowing his initial opportunity. The former drug addict was tailspinning down the road to self destruction and found himself staring death straight in the eyes.

“Getting arrested, going to jail, rehab, dying of a drug overdose. What else did I do? Crash a car or two,” McCall candidly revealed. “I just took too many drugs. I took a combination of stuff that wasn’t the best idea.

“I went to go get tattooed to have a heart on my chest. I died, woke up a couple of days later and everyone kind of shook their head like, ‘Are you done?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m done’ and I’ve been done ever since.”

After nearly becoming another statistic in late 2009, McCall decided to rededicate himself to his profession in order to provide for the expanding McCall clan. “Uncle Creepy” also became the planet’s top ranked 125-pounder in the process.

“If I didn’t have mixed martial arts, I’d probably still be in jail, or rehab or doing drugs,” McCall said. “I’ve now become a husband and a father and that stuff has just added to the fire where now I can’t screw up.”
