Another day, another injury. Late Monday night, it was announced Bibiano Fernandes (Pictured) is the latest in a long line of fighters to be stung by the injury bug. The bantamweight was slated to make his big league debut against Roland Delorme at UFC 149.
Fernandes was one of the planet’s most sought-after free agents prior to inking with the UFC. After losing the Dream featherweight belt to Hiroyuki Takaya, “The Flash” shed 10 pounds and ran through Dream’s Bantamweight Grand Prix to capture the crown.
The promotion didn’t report what wound forced the Brazilian out of the July 21st event.
Fernandes now joins the likes of Vitor Belfort, Thiago Silva, Thiago Alves, Brian Stann and Michael Bisping to get hurt while training since last month. Champions Jose Aldo, Georges St-Pierre and Dominick Cruz are also presently on the UFC’s IR list.
Delorme is expected to remain in the lineup against another nemesis.
Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta hosts the UFC’s return to Canada.
