UFC Gray Maynard

“UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida” took place Friday inside Revel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

What should have been a thrilling lightweight shootout between Gray Maynard (Pictured) and Clay Guida turned into a game of catch me if you can … for FIVE PLEASE-PUT-ME-OUT-OF-MY-MISERY ROUNDS.

UFC president Dana White tweeted midway through the fight, “I thought it was impossible for this fight to suck. I WAS WRONG!!!!!!”

Instead of engaging in battle, Guida basically ran around the Octagon for the entire 25-minute affair. Referee Dan Miragliotta finally threatened to deduct a point from Guida in the 5thRound if he didn’t get off his bicycle.

When the dust settled on their track meet, Maynard wound up taking home a split decision victory.

Although it was a pro-Guida crowd before their bout, “The Carpenter” was getting pelted with boos by the end of it.

Post-Fight Press Conference Notes:

UFC president Dana White on Clay Guida’s strategy, “You can’t win a fight by running in circles.”

White hopes Spencer Fisher will reconsider retirement because, “He looked as good as he’s ever looked tonight.”

White bounced from the presser early to fly to Brazil for UFC 147.

Guida felt good about his performance. His game plan was to avoid Gray Maynard’s heavy hands.

“The Carpenter” wasn’t pleased with the split decision loss, “Usually the guy that gets hit less, wins.”

Despite the heated words they exchanged after the fight, Guida and Maynard appear to have buried the hatchet.

Brian Ebersole confirmed he’s contemplating a drop to lightweight.
