It appears Alistair Overeem isn’t the only UFC fighter targeting a December return to the Octagon. Welterweight Thiago Alves (Pictured), who just underwent surgery on a torn pectoral muscle, stated he’ll be back in action before the ball drops for 2013.
“Great news just talked to my Doctor and my PT. They both told me I’ll be back fighting again by December! I can’t wait!” Alves tweeted.
The former top contender was slated to meet Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC 149 prior to his injury.
Alves was looking to rebound from a disappointing submission loss to Martin Kampmann. After dominating much of their standup affair, the former top contender inexplicably attempted a takedown in the closing seconds of their shootout and found himself on the wrong end of a Hail Mary.
“Pitbull” dons an impressive 19-6 professional record, though the 28-year-old has dropped four of his last six scraps.
