Sylvia Ready to "Upset the World"

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Tim Sylvia, is feeling good about his chances as an underdog against the consensus #1 ranked Heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko. Sylvia sat down and spoke with 5thRound.com for an exclusive interview at the official “Affliction:Banned” press conference. Sylvia certainly likes his chances to walk away victorious this Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

“I’m excited about the fight,” Sylvia told 5thRound. “It is a good fight for me, and I plan on going out there and upsetting the world.”

After spending almost the entire past six years fighting for the UFC, this will be the former champ’s first bout away from the largest MMA organization in the world. A few months back, the UFC let Sylvia out of his contract early because they weren’t satisfied with his performance, even though he posted an impressive 8-4 record, not to mention being a two-time champion in the organization.

Although Sylvia is not the most exciting of fighters, his services were still in high demand once he hit the open market. As soon as Affliction came calling with an opportunity to fight the best in the world, there was no other option.

There usually is a significant difference when you compare an organization as established as the UFC to a start up promotion, but it was all the same to Sylvia.

“Right now it doesn’t seem any different at all, really,” Sylvia said matter of factly. “Maybe the PR (public relations) is a little bit bigger (in the UFC), but all in all it seems like another fight.”

It may just be “another fight” to Sylvia, but a victory here would catapult his ranking and status within the MMA community.  He might be downplaying the importance of the fight, but he spoke confidently about his chances on pulling off an upset, even though he is more than a 3-1 underdog.

“I do, I feel real confident for this fight!” Sylvia proclaimed.

Sylvia is approching this fight as a great opportunity, which it is. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain. He knows that he will need every advantage to pull off the upset, so Sylvia was extra secretive when asked about how he plans to attack the most feared fighter in MMA.

“You’re gonna have to watch the fight Saturday night to see the game plan,” Sylvia stated.

Don’t worry Tim. We will be.
