Although MMA’s most vicious trash talker in Chael Sonnen was present during Monday’s UFC 148 conference call, it was reigning middleweight king Anderson Silva (Pictured) who was the one spitting hot fire.
Silva’s words were relayed through a Portuguese translator, but the venom behind his voice could be understood in any language.
“First of all, Chael is a criminal,” an irritated Silva stated in referencing Sonnen’s money laundering case. “He doesn’t deserve to be inside the Octagon, and when the time comes, I’m gonna break his face and break every one of his teeth in his mouth.
“Right now, play time is over. I’m gonna beat Chael like he’s never been beaten before. I’m going to beat him maybe the way his parents should have beaten him to teach him some manners. This joke is over. I know he’s on the line listening. I’m going to beat his ass out of the UFC. He’s never gonna want to fight again after I’m done with him.”
The outburst was out of character for the normally reserved Brazilian. However, this rematch has been two years in the making and “The Spider” has clearly had enough of Sonnen’s diarrhea of the mouth.
Sonnen remained relatively quiet during Silva’s tirade – however, he is Jim Rome’s 2012 Smackoff champion so there’s no way he could go completely radio silent while getting lambasted. The chatty challenger fired back in true Chael P. Sonnen fashion.
“He thinks he’s gonna break my face? Tell him I’ve got two words for him: ‘medium rare,'” Sonnen countered.
Unfortunately for fight fans, the heated call came to an anticlimactic ending as Silva’s line went dead. UFC president Dana White immediately wrapped the media gathering.
After manhandling Silva for nearly five complete rounds at UFC 117, Sonnen was abruptly submitted with only 110 ticks remaining on the clock. The sequel takes place July 7 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
