After two years of unprecedented hoopla, the rematch between middleweight king Anderson Silva (Pictured) and Chael Sonnen is officially a thing of the past.
After manhandling Silva for nearly five complete rounds in their initial shootout, Sonnen was abruptly submitted with only 110 ticks remaining on the clock. Although tonight’s fight wasn’t nearly as dramatic, the result was the same for Silva.
Once again, Sonnen planted “The Spider” on his back for the entire opening frame and it appeared as though the champ was in trouble. However, Silva rallied to collect his record 10th successful UFC title defense.

Here is the play-by-play from Silva vs. Sonnen II:
Yves Lavigne is the third man inside the Octagon. No touch of gloves after introduction. Sonnen plants him on his back within seconds. The challenger is active with his attack, but Silva is doing a good job with avoiding damage. Silva is holding him tight in his half-guard and is trying to get it stood up. Sonnen drops a right bomb. Sonnen advances to full mount with a minute remaining.
Sonnen immediately goes for another takedown and has Silva clinched against the fence. Sonnen attempts an arrant spinning back fist and falls to the ground. Silva throws a knee to the body – it looked like it was an illegal shot to Sonnen’s head, but it wasn’t. He’s giving him the business. That’s all she wrote.
Silva shakes hands with Sonnen and asks for Brazilians to show him respect. He invites Sonnen to Brazil for a BBQ. #MediumRare
